U8 Characteristics and Implications

 

 

Characteristics

  • Attention span longer than U6 players but not necessarily recognize “team”

  • Inclined toward more group/partner activities

  • Lack sense of pace

  • Imitate “big guys/girls” (sport heroes)

  • Still very sensitive/dislike failure in front of others

  • Body exploration

Implications for Training

  • 1 hour or less training sessions

  • Warm-up each player with ball, stretching, paired ball activities

  • Add more maze type games and introduce target games

  • Conclude with small sided game 3v3 - 4v4 to goals (NO GK’s)
